Control Is By Design A Limited Commodity
21 March 2026
Control is energy-zapping by nature.
The nervous system uses it for survival; an instant tiger escape. Useful once. Not forever.
Understanding does the long-term work.
Low energy. Natural intelligence. Threats register; the body stays relaxed.
Yet we drip-feed control all day because it’s easy to trigger and the real cost stays hidden: constant vigilance, looping tension, deep exhaustion.
Look closely today:
- Child skips snack timing.
- Homework untouched.
- Partner silent on ETA.
- Friend skips dinner confirmation.
- Peer networks more.
- Neighbours parking annoys.
In each: Does this require control?
Or is survival actually at stake?
If control were gold coins, would you spend one here?
Or seek understanding. See what led to it, act (or not) without force?
Seeing this truth alone begins to dry the drip.
No technique needed.
Exhaustion blamed on “tasks” is often control disguised.
“I help my child every night or they’ll fail and be upset.”
Beneath: fear of upset → control for quick relief.
I’m not saying don’t help. That is implication by mind.
I’m saying see the driver.
In my own life, it wasn’t really about the child.
That was hard to swallow.
The part that resists letting go doesn’t know what happens without control.
It just believes everything depends on it.
Control is precious.
Use it only when the tiger is truly here.
Anything else belongs to understanding.
The questions are here, if you want them.
